My low cal chocolate coffee for 100 calories
So I’d say I’m addicted to Starbucks. I *try* to incorporate it into my daily intake, but lets face it- when I only have 1300-1500 calories a day.. that’s pretty hard. The lowest option at Starbucks I’ve found is their tall hot chocolate with skim milk and no whip for 190 calories. And it’s not even that great. So I’ve been trying my best to come up with something at home that’s better and lower calorie. This is what I’ve come up with so far. If you have any suggestions on making this tastier pleease let me know! Although, this is pretty yummy so far! :)
Ingredients:
~1/4 cup skim milk
~ 1/2 tbs honey
~coffee (Use as much as you like. I only used about 1/2 cup. The quality of the coffee is VERY IMPORTANT. Boring coffee makes for a boring drink. Use coffee flavored with caramel, chocolate, hazelnut, whatever you like! I’m using Texas Turtle from World Market which is caramel and chocolate flavored coffee)
~2 tbs whipped cream
~2 squares dark chocolate (at least 70% cocoa, it’s good for you too!!! FYI in the picture there are 3 squares. I ate the 3rd ;). My math on the chocolate is this: 1.4 ounces is 213 calories, that is *about* 10 squares, so each square is *about* 22-24 calories)
So while the coffee is brewing I mix in my mug/bowl 1/4 cup skim milk (20 calories), 1/2 tablespoon honey (30 calories), 1 tablespoon whipped cream (7 calories), 1 chocolate square chopped (24 calories). Then I add in the coffee and stir until chocolate is melted. If your coffee maker is like mine, you may need to microwave your coffee for 30 seconds so it’s hot enough to melt the chocolate. Then I put another tablespoon of whipped cream on top (7 calories) and the other remaining chocolate squares chopped on top (24). That’s all!
It does take a minute to make this, but I kind of like that. This is simple and yummy for just about 115 calories. Beats the tall hot chocolate at Starbucks by about 80 calories and tastes a lot better, and fixes my chocolate craving for the day!
